Dental sealants are a dental treatment intended to prevent dental caries. A very thin layer of a plastic product is applied to the grooves on the occlusal surface of the molars and premolars, thus preventing the accumulation of dental plaque (bacteria) and the formation of caries on these surfaces.
Dental sealants may be used at any age. It is highly recommended to those between 6 and 14 years of age and adults that are susceptible to developing caries.
If you are prone to cavities, a dental sealant may be very helpful for you.
